Eranthis Cilicica 'Winter Aconite' Flower Bulbs

Eranthis cilicica, also known as Winter Aconite or Winter Buttercup, is a small bulb that's easy to grow and produces bright yellow flowers in late winter or early spring. She is an early bloomer, blooming before Crocus.  She prefers full sun to partial shade, in moist well-draining high organic matter soils. She will add sunny happiness to your garden.  

Planting - Plant the bulbs in moist, well-draining soil with a neutral pH and lots of organic matter in full sun to partial shade. You can plant them 2–5 cm deep and 3–10 cm apart, with the pointy ends facing up or on their side. If the soil is dry, water them well after planting to help them settle. You can also plant them in groups or clusters by scattering them in a wide, shallow area and covering them with soil. Eranthis cilicica doesn't like to be disturbed, so she is not ideal for containers.

After planting - Water the plant well once and then wait for spring. She is a sun lover.  During the blooming period, full sun will produce the best blooms, but after flowering, some shade will help the plant flourish. Her leaves will emerge after flowering has completed.  After the flowers die, you can let the plant rest and remove old leaves without watering her much. When the foliage has completely died back on its own, you can remove it.

Location - Eranthis cilicica looks great in woodland or meadow gardens, along walkways, in rock gardens, or in front of borders. You can also grow them near a window so you can enjoy the flowers indoors during the winter. 

Care - Although the plant will go dormant after flowering, consistent moisture is needed throughout the year.  Under optimum conditions, this plant can self-seed and naturalize to form a colony.  Once planted, she should not be transplanted. Transplants tend to not do as well as when left in their original location.  

She is a good friend to Butterflies and Pollinators, while resisting deer, rabbits and squirrels.
